WATER STEAM


Next to the railway the steam ship was the second most important means of transport, shaping the age of the industrial revolution.
Apart from the High Seas, steam ships could only rival the railway on Europe´s largest rivers, like the River Rhine.
Especially there where time was not a predominant issue (i.e. the transport of coal and iron ore) the cost effective steam ship kept going until the post war period.
